Genesis 18:2 Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.
In one of the earliest references to angels in the Bible they are spoken of as men, as that is what they looked like. In Genesis 18:13, 14, 17ff and especially 19:1 it becomes clear that these are more than men, however. Whether we understand the three as God and two angels or simply three angels, here are messengers from heaven, bringing good news and bad to Abraham.
